MOSCOW: Norwegian cruise ship Maud has experienced navigation problems in the North Sea due to damage caused by a storm, reported Sputnik, quoting Norwegian media.
On Thursday, storm warnings were issued in many parts of the United Kingdom due to the Pia storm.
The vessel was heading from the Norwegian city of Floro to the port city of Tilbury in the UK when it encountered navigation problems due to the Pia storm, the VG newspaper reported on Thursday.
There were 266 passengers and 131 crew members on board the Maud.
Edward Middleton, head of the rescue operation, was quoted by the newspaper as saying that several of the ship’s windows had been blown out, there were power cuts, and water had probably entered the command bridge.
The rescue operation was reportedly carried out by the Danish rescue service. The vessel is currently being navigated manually instead of the usual navigation via the ship’s electronic systems, and the situation on board is stable, Danish broadcaster TV2 reported, citing the Danish military operational centre.
No serious injuries occurred on board, VG reported, citing the ship’s owner, Hurtigruten Expeditions.–Bernama-Sputnik
