Kelantan receives over 300 gold panning licence applications since early January, with locations to be announced this Wednesday.
KOTA BHARU: More than 300 people have submitted applications for gold panning licences in Kelantan since the process opened in early January.
Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said the response to the regulated activity was very encouraging.
“The locations for the panning activities will be announced this Wednesday,” he told reporters.
He added that applications were still open and each one undergoes a specific process that does not take too long.
“This gold panning activity can also help the people earn a lawful livelihood permitted by the government,” Mohamed Fadzli said.
He noted it was a way to make use of the state’s own natural resources.
The state government had previously announced that licences for panning on state land would only be granted to Kelantan residents.
The annual fee for a licence is RM100.
Applications can be made at the Land and Mines Office.
Licence holders are only permitted to use traditional methods without mechanical assistance or modern equipment.
