MELAKA: The Melaka Islamic Religious Department (JAIM) has been instructed to investigate viral claims that a hotel in the state is operating as a ‘gay-friendly’ establishment.
State Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman (pic) confirmed he had issued the directive.
“I have instructed JAIM to investigate the allegations,” he said briefly when contacted.
The claims were initially raised by independent preacher Firdaus Wong Wai Hung on his social media page.
“Besides pet-friendly malls, Malaysia also has family-friendly, child-friendly and most recently, a ‘gay-friendly’ hotel in Melaka,” he wrote.
He added that the branding was “quite creative,” noting that even a ‘Muslim-friendly’ label could be turned into a business.
