“Salary: RM1,700, work 6 days a week, 1 day off (8:30am – 5pm), no annual leave, taking leave means salary gets deducted.”

A Malaysian jobseeker’s post about a recent job interview has gone viral due to the RM1,700 salary offered and the working conditions attached to the role.

In a post shared on Threads, the person said she was offered a salary of RM1,700, but after EPF and SOCSO deductions, her take-home pay would be around RM1,500.

The disappointment doesn’t end there, according to the post, he job requires employees to work six days a week from 8.30am to 5pm, with only one rest day. Despite this, the position comes with no annual leave, and taking time off would result in salary deductions.

She also claimed that medical certificates (MCs) are not accepted, meaning employees would still face pay cuts even when sick. More alarmingly, she alleged that public holidays are unpaid, with wages deducted if employees do not come to work.

Other costs further added to the burden, including work attire being deducted from her salary and RM6 daily parking fees.

To make matters worse, she said the job offered no allowances or benefits.

The jobseeker added that none of these conditions were mentioned during the application stage and were only revealed during the interview, calling it a waste of time for both parties.

“It was a waste of time for both parties because I definitely don’t want to work an underpaid job like this, and HR ended up wasting time interviewing me too.”
