Deputy PM Ahmad Zahid Hamidi files to be freed of 47 criminal charges, citing a 2024 AGC statement ordering no further action on the case.

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has applied to be acquitted of 47 criminal charges linked to Yayasan Akalbudi funds.

His lawyer, Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik, said the application was filed at the High Court on 28 January, naming the Public Prosecutor as respondent.

The application cites an Attorney General’s Chambers media statement dated 8 January 2024, which stated no further action would be taken on the 47 charges.

Hisyam added that Ahmad Zahid has been under a discharge not amounting to an acquittal for over two years.

“It is unfair for the charges to remain unresolved for such a long period,” he said after proceedings before Judge Nurulhuda Nur’aini Mohamad Nor.

He stated the application, filed with a certificate of urgency, was submitted to the AGC on 30 January.

The court has fixed 24 February for the hearing of the application. – Bernama
