“If you want a five-figure income, you have to carry five-figure pressure,” says 34-year-old earning RM11k

“This mental and physical toll is the price of earning over RM10k a month. Simply put, if you want a five-figure income, you have to carry five-figure pressure.”

A Malaysian man has sparked widespread discussion online after openly sharing the mental and emotional toll of earning a five-figure monthly salary.

In an anonymous post on Xuan’s Facebook page, the 34-year-old revealed he earns around RM11,000 before taxes (about RM9,200 after), has no car or housing loans, and is single.

He noted that while many are curious about what life is like earning over RM10,000, few talk about the personal cost behind such a salary.

The man shared that after reaching a managerial role in his previous industry, he decided to switch fields to challenge himself. Despite starting from a lower position, he was offered a higher salary and given team leadership responsibilities within three months of joining the company.

However, with those opportunities came relentless pressure.

“The workload is so heavy that work occupies my mind even after hours and on weekends. From the moment I start work until I clock out, it’s nonstop. There’s barely any room to breathe.

“I also have to constantly manage my team members’ motivation and cooperation, making sure everything is done perfectly, always worried that a small mistake could be noticed by my superiors.”

To make matters worse, the work drains nearly all of his energy and leaves him with little time or mental space to take care of his life.

“This mental and physical toll is the price of earning over RM10k a month.

“Simply put, if you want a five-figure income, you have to carry five-figure pressure.”

The 34-year-old ended his post emphasising that he was not trying to boast, the man said his intention was simply to give people a more realistic picture of what a five-figure income entails.

“Before envying such an income, people should ask themselves whether they can accept this kind of life.”
