Malaysian director Namewee faces drug charges after police raid found ecstasy pills in his hotel room, with court mention set for December
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested and charged director and musician Wee Meng Chee, known as Namewee, for drug possession and use following a hotel raid last month.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed the arrest occurred during a 4.30 pm operation on October 22 at a city hotel.
Officers discovered nine blue pills believed to be ecstasy weighing approximately 5.12 grammes in the hotel room.
The 42-year-old was then taken to Dang Wangi Police Headquarters for further investigation.
Subsequent tests revealed Namewee positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and THC.
He received a two-day remand through court order to assist police investigations.
Authorities charged him on October 24 at Kuala Lumpur Court under two Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 provisions.
Section 39A(1) addresses drug possession while Section 15(1)(a) covers drug use.
Namewee entered a not guilty plea during his court appearance.
The court granted him bail set at RM4,000 with one surety.
His case has been scheduled for mention on December 18 for further proceedings. – Bernama
