Sunway parks host grand Deepavali celebration with fireworks

THOUSANDS of visitors witnessed spectacular fireworks displays as Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Lost World of Tambun hosted one of Malaysia’s biggest Deepavali festivals, running from October 15 to 22.

The Grand Deepavali Celebration brought together local families and international tourists in a vibrant week-long festival celebrating Malaysia’s multicultural heritage and the triumph of light over darkness.

The highlight of the festivities was a breathtaking 3-minute fireworks display that illuminated the night skies at both theme parks on October 20.

Cultural Performances and Entertainment

Throughout the celebration, guests enjoyed a spectacular lineup of performances including Melodies of Deepavali, the energetic Colours of Bhangra, and a spirited Dhol Parade that had visitors dancing along.

The festivities culminated in a Musical Fireworks Display, symbolising the essence of Deepavali: joy, unity, and new beginnings.

Families and friends also participated in meet-and-greet sessions with beloved mascots Captain Quack and Family, admired colourful kolam displays, and captured memories at festive photo zones designed to immerse guests in the beauty and warmth of Deepavali.

Building Towards Visit Malaysia Year 2026

“Deepavali is a celebration of light, culture, and togetherness, and at Sunway Theme Parks, we’re proud to honour that spirit,“ said Prof. Calvin Ho, Chief Executive Officer of Sunway Theme Parks. “Through events like this, we aim to create inclusive spaces where people from all walks of life can come together to experience the richness of Malaysia’s multicultural heritage.”

The celebration attracted visitors from neighbouring ASEAN countries and international tourists, creating a vibrant cultural melting pot. As Malaysia prepares for Visit Malaysia Year 2026, large-scale cultural celebrations like The Grand Deepavali Celebration play a crucial role in enhancing the country’s appeal as a must-visit destination.

Commitment to Cultural Inclusivity

The Grand Deepavali Celebration builds on Sunway Theme Parks’ long-standing commitment to cultural inclusivity, following other major festive events such as Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, and Christmas. This approach makes Sunway Theme Parks a true reflection of Malaysia’s unity in diversity.

By showcasing the beauty of Malaysia’s living heritage through music, art, and community festivities, Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Lost World of Tambun are contributing to promoting Malaysia’s multicultural identity on the global stage, attracting international tourists and repeat visitors, driving economic benefits to surrounding communities and tourism partners, and positioning cultural events as key tourism experiences for families and travellers.

The Grand Deepavali Celebration continues until October 22, with ongoing performances, festive food, and family-friendly activities across both Sunway Lagoon in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur and Sunway Lost World of Tambun in Sunway City Ipoh.
