A burger stall assistant in Perak was fined RM500 for making a false police report about his lost identity card to avoid a replacement fee.
PARIT: A burger stall assistant was fined RM500 by the Magistrate’s Court here after pleading guilty to filing a false police report about the loss of his identity card.
Magistrate Nurul Izalina Rajaai imposed the fine on 40-year-old Mohd Azlan Mat Rahim, which he paid.
He was charged with making the false report at the Seri Iskandar Police Station at about 10.30 am last Monday.
The charge was framed under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of six months’ jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
According to the case facts, the accused initially reported that his wallet had been stolen.
Police investigations later cast doubt on his story, revealing he had actually lost his identity card on Feb 28.
It was found he lodged the false report to avoid being fined by the National Registration Department for a replacement, as it was the second time he had lost the document.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohd Syukri Abdul Talib conducted the prosecution.
Lawyer Noor Shafarin Abdullah represented the accused.
