Terengganu has prepared 851 relief centres with RM4.1 million allocation to accommodate 214,392 flood victims during the Northeast Monsoon
KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu has completed 851 temporary relief centres in preparation for the upcoming Northeast Monsoon season.
The centres have a combined capacity to accommodate approximately 214,392 flood victims across the state.
Terengganu Disaster Committee deputy chairman Datuk Hanafiah Mat confirmed all centres are fully equipped and ready for immediate activation.
“All the PPS are fully equipped and can be opened as soon as flood evacuation begins,” he said after the state assembly sitting at Wisma Darul Iman.
Kuala Terengganu has 30 centres, Kuala Nerus (39), Marang (61), Dungun (107), Kemaman (99), Hulu Terengganu (162), Setiu (104) and Besut (249).
The state has allocated RM4.1 million for relief centre operations, with RM2.8 million from the federal government and RM1.3 million from the state government.
The Terengganu Irrigation and Drainage Department has cleaned and maintained approximately 1,200 kilometres of drainage systems throughout the state.
This comprehensive maintenance includes clearing rivers, streams, and canals to ensure smooth water flow during heavy rainfall.
Terengganu Malaysian Civil Defence Force director Colonel Mohd Zul Khairi Shamsuddin confirmed 800 personnel are on standby for evacuation and rescue operations.
The force has prepared 63 boats, 13 lorries and 300 life jackets for flood response missions.
