Perkeso implements 10 major reforms including 20% benefit increase, gig worker coverage, and foreign worker protection under KESUMA’s 3K priorities.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Social Security Organisation (Perkeso) has implemented comprehensive reforms to strengthen social protection for all contributors, including gig and foreign workers.
Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong announced that 10 major reforms have been introduced over the past two years to enhance contributor welfare.
“These reforms are guided by KESUMA’s three priorities, namely welfare, skills and productivity,” he said at the Perkeso Media Awards 2025 Ceremony.
Significant changes include a 20% increase in contributor benefits and higher death benefits rising from RM2,000 to RM3,000.
The Invalidity Scheme has been extended to cover foreign workers for the first time.
Contributors no longer need upfront payments at 1,400 panel clinics nationwide.
Dialysis assistance approval has been streamlined from 40 days to just seven days.
The dialysis subsidy increased from RM150 to RM170 per treatment session.
Under the proposed GIG Workers Bill, freelance media professionals will receive Perkeso protection.
This includes freelancers, photographers, videographers and stringers who contribute to the industry.
A RM1,000 Mobility Allowance will assist job seekers securing employment over 100 kilometres from home.
This additional benefit falls under the Employment Insurance Scheme (SIP).
“These measures are a game-changer in the country’s social protection system,” Sim stated.
“We are not only increasing benefits but also strengthening the safety net for every worker.”
Sim acknowledged Perkeso and media partners for their role in communicating these reforms effectively.
