‘Poor can’t afford but still want to buy’: buyer threatened by tech seller

Buyer shocked as Malaysian tech seller insults him over price error and threatens to share his home address online

IN today’s e-commerce world, the relationship between customers and sellers can be tense, but one Reddit user’s experience with a Malaysian tech store took it to a whole new level.

The user shared screenshots showing that after purchasing a hardware item worth RM2,897.06 on a popular online platform, the seller’s response was shocking.

The seller asked him to cancel the order, claiming the displayed price was inaccurate and that the unit was no longer available.

“(If) you don’t cancel, we will send you an empty parcel and thank you for the free money,” the seller wrote sarcastically.

When the customer insisted on requesting a refund, the seller erupted with insults, calling him “stupid” and an “idiot”, adding, “Poor can’t afford but still want to buy.”

Despite the platform’s chat warning him that his language violated terms and conditions, the seller escalated further, threatening to leak the customer’s home address online.

Netizens quickly advised the buyer to report the incident to both the e-commerce platform and the police, given the personal information threat.

“I’d be tempted to not cancel. Not your fault he put the wrong price. If he sends empty parcels then it’s a scam,” commented one Reddit user, Superdaneru, in support of the original poster.

Having dealt with a rude seller before, princeofpirate shared, “I once found a seller like this. I asked about the archery equipment he sells, and he insulted me because I didn’t give salam (greeting) properly. I immediately blacklisted him afterward.”

Others highlighted the seller’s questionable business practices, noting that product prices fluctuated drastically in screenshots taken at different times on the same day.

Following the backlash, the victim reported the incident to the platform, resulting in the removal of the seller’s page, which is now unavailable.
