The Sabah state election sees an 86-year-old and a 24-year-old among candidates, highlighting a generational battle across multiple constituencies
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sabah state election has become a battleground for generational representation with its oldest candidate aged 86 and youngest at 24.
Former Sabah National Party president Uling @ Thomas Anggan, 86, is contesting the Bingkor state seat in a ten-cornered fight.
He faces incumbent Robert Tawik @ Nordin, now representing Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, and eight other challengers.
The Bingkor constituency within the Keningau parliamentary area has 31,305 registered voters.
Meanwhile, Mohd Syafiq Iqhmal Saharudin, 24, from the same party is the election’s youngest candidate contesting the Silam seat.
He faces a nine-cornered contest including Deputy Science Minister Datuk Dr Mohammad Yusof Apdal from Warisan.
Other Silam opponents include candidates from Barisan Nasional, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and Perikatan Nasional.
The 2020 state election’s youngest candidate was 22 years old in Tandek while the oldest was 75 in Bugaya.
This election features 71 women among 596 candidates with Warisan fielding the most female candidates at nine.
The Election Commission has set November 25 for early voting and November 29 as polling day. – Bernama
