A man has been arrested for allegedly stealing Telekom cables in Teluk Intan, with police recovering burnt copper wires believed to be from the telecommunications company.

TELUK INTAN: Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly stealing cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia Berhad.

The suspect was apprehended at about 11 pm yesterday during crime prevention rounds at an oil palm plantation in Bandar Lagenda.

A body search found no illegal items on the suspect. A further check of the area led to the discovery of a gunny sack containing various burnt copper wires.

The wires are suspected to belong to Telekom, according to Hilir Perak Police Chief ACP Chua Kok Lian.

A background check revealed the suspect has two prior criminal records related to narcotics. His urine test, however, came back negative for drugs.
