Negeri Sembilan records 10,195 road accidents in four months, with 126 fatal cases and 134 deaths, mainly involving motorcyclists.
SEREMBAN: Road accident statistics in Negeri Sembilan show a worrying trend with 10,195 cases recorded over the past four months.
Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad (pic) said that out of that number, 126 cases were fatal accidents resulting in 134 deaths, including incidents involving more than one person killed in a single incident.
He said that 83 cases were categorised as serious accidents, minor accidents (237), and cases involving only vehicle damage (9,749).
“From these accidents, nearly 46 per cent of deaths involve motorcyclists due to loss of control, including drowsiness and long-distance driving that causes fatigue and affects concentration levels.
“Limited lighting, especially at night, also contributes to the increased risk of accidents in addition to individual’s negligence,” he said in a statement here today.
Alzafny said that in addition, several other factors were also identified as causes of accidents, including tailgating with 2,581 cases, lack of awareness and failure to detect objects with 2,351 cases, which also involved 24 deaths, as well as single-vehicle accidents with 1,321 cases and 39 deaths.
Additionally, negligence at intersections recorded 1,318 cases, while factors such as fatigue, drowsiness, or loss of focus contributed to 13 deaths.
He added that the Royal Malaysia Police will continue to enhance law enforcement continuously to ensure compliance with traffic regulations is always adhered to and the safety of road users is preserved.
