Walton Goggins joins The Strokes’s latest music video

Fallout star lip-syncs in The Strokes’s new Going Shopping visual

The official video for The Strokes’s Going Shopping brings in Walton Goggins to join frontman Julian Casablancas in a comic tribute to Paul Simon’s 1986 video for You Can Call Me Al.

The clip, directed by Johann Rashid, places the Fallout and The White Lotus actor beside Casablancas in a visual setup that closely recalls Simon’s famous pairing with Chevy Chase.

Rather than treating Goggins as stunt casting, the video uses him as a full comic partner for Casablancas, turning the single into a loose, self-aware homage to one of the most recognisable music videos of the 1980s.

The two sit together, trade gestures and lip-sync through the track while the video builds into a stranger, more chaotic routine involving the rest of the band, clowns and deadpan physical comedy.

The result gives Going Shopping a knowingly odd screen life, with Goggins playing the role of overcommitted guest star rather than a simple cameo. His presence also adds another pop-culture turn to the rollout for Reality Awaits, The Strokes’s upcoming seventh studio album.

Goggins later shared his excitement on Instagram, writing: “Never had the audacity to put something like this on my bucket list… I’ve been listening to ‘Reality Awaits’ since March.. It’s so gatdamn special y’all.”

The actor also thanked Casablancas, Fabrizio Moretti, Albert Hammond Jr., Nikolai Fraiture and Rashid for the invitation, calling the shoot a set of days he would not forget.

Going Shopping was first released in April as the lead single from Reality Awaits, the band’s follow-up to 2020’s The New Abnormal. The album had initially been expected on June 26 but is now scheduled for release on July 24.

The video arrives during a busy period for the New York indie rock band, which is preparing for a wider tour run across North America, the UK, Europe and Japan.

One notable absence from the video is guitarist Nick Valensi, who is currently on a temporary break from live duties with the band. Casablancas has addressed speculation online, saying Valensi had not left the group and was expected to return.
