Security personnel casting early ballots in the Johor state election urged to exercise their civic duty with integrity and democratic spirit.
JOHOR BAHRU: Security personnel casting their ballots in the early voting process for the 16th Johor State Election today have been urged to fulfil their civic duty with integrity and in the spirit of democracy.
The call was made by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin in separate Facebook posts, in which they also wished the 24,751 eligible early voters a smooth voting process.
“Happy voting to all early voters. Exercise your right with full responsibility and in the spirit of democracy,” said Saifuddin Nasution, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) secretary-general.
Saifuddin Nasution also urged the PH election machinery to continue working until the end of the campaign period by engaging with the people and maintaining a mature campaign throughout the election process.
Mohamed Khaled, meanwhile, said early voters should fulfil their responsibility to ensure Johor continues on its path of progress.
Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi appealed to early voters to place their trust in every Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate to continue the agenda of stability, development and public welfare.
The three leaders also prayed for the early voting process to proceed smoothly, peacefully and in an orderly manner, while wishing both voters and election officials ease in carrying out their responsibilities.
The early voters comprise 12,041 members of the Malaysian Armed Forces and their spouses, as well as 12,710 police personnel and their spouses.
A total of 64 early voting centres opened at 8 am and will close in stages between noon and 6 pm, depending on the location and the number of registered voters.
Both PH and BN are contesting all 56 seats in the election, which involves 172 candidates. Polling is on Saturday.
