Campaigning ends at midnight for the 16th Johor state election as parties make last-minute pushes to win over voters before polling day.
JOHOR BAHRU: The race to win the mandate in the 16th Johor State Election (PRN) entered its final sprint phase today, witnessing all candidates and party leaders launching last-minute strategies to win over voters before the campaigning period officially concludes at 11:59 pm tonight.
Leading the Pakatan Harapan (PH) machinery, its Chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wrapped up a tour across five strategic locations to provide a final morale boost to the coalition’s candidates.
The tour kicked off with a programme in the Bukit Gambir State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituency before moving to Bukit Batu and Layang-Layang and is scheduled to conclude tonight with the ‘Johor Ke Depan, Undi Harapan Grand Finale Programme’ in Pasir Gudang.
Via a Facebook post, the Prime Minister also prayed that all affairs of the PH team in facing tomorrow’s polling day would be eased.
Meanwhile, the PH candidate for the Larkin state seat, Suhaizan Kaiat, opted for a casual approach by conducting a walkabout around a shopping mall in the city, accompanied by Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) Vice President Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
Suhaizan described all the feedback and views received throughout the campaign period as a great responsibility that he would shoulder if given the mandate.
For the Barisan Nasional (BN) camp, its Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi chose a spiritual approach by attending the ‘BN Grand Supplication and Doa Selamat’ event in the Kulai district tonight.
Through a Facebook post, the Deputy Prime Minister urged all Johoreans (Bangsa Johor) to come out and fulfill their responsibilities tomorrow, while also reminding them to plan their journeys due to the unpredictable weather forecast.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia), weather in most areas is expected to be clear in the morning, but there is a potential for rain or thunderstorms in the afternoon.
A deeply humbled tone was also expressed by the BN candidate for the Machap seat, who is also the incumbent Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Through a video post on Facebook, he openly apologised to all the people of Johor for any shortcomings throughout his administration.
Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin urged the people of Johor to make the right decision in choosing the party that will lead the state government.
“In the two-week campaigning period, (I hope) voters have gathered data and information regarding the contesting parties to decide which one they will choose,” he said via a video post on Facebook.
Meanwhile, the Bersama party chose to lower the curtain on their campaign with the ‘Ceramah Finale BERSAMA’ featuring the prominent leadership duo of Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
“God willing, in my final speech for this Johor state election, I will summarise, dissect, and counter all the issues that have been brought up throughout this election,” Rafizi said.
Not to be left out, the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (MUDA) also showed their final meetle through their pinnacle event, the ‘Puteri Wangsa Grand Finale Lecture’.
MUDA President Amira Aisya Abd Aziz reminded the state’s citizens of the absolute power they hold.
A total of 172 candidates are contesting to win 56 state seats in the 16th Johor State Election tomorrow.
