KMJG convoy to remain platform to promote patriotism, unity – Fahmi

The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy will remain a key platform for fostering patriotism and national unity

IPOH: The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy will continue to serve as a platform to foster patriotism while promoting unity and love for the country among Malaysians nationwide.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the programme would remain one of the main highlights of the 2026 National Month and Malaysia Day (HKHM) celebrations, themed ‘Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati’ (Malaysia MADANI: Shared Prosperity).

He said although this year’s celebrations would be held prudently by optimising available resources, promoting patriotism and deepening appreciation of the nation’s independence would remain a priority.

“The One House, One Jalur Gemilang initiative would also be intensified to encourage Malaysians to fly the national flag as a symbol of the nation’s sovereignty, unity and pride,” he said.

Fahmi was speaking at the launch of the 2026 National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at the Sultan Azlan Shah Ministry of Health Training Institute (ILKKM SAS) in Tanjung Rambutan here today.

The event was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and was also attended by National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

Meanwhile, Saarani said the launch marked the start of National Month, which invites Malaysians to reflect on the nation’s journey, honour the sacrifices of previous generations, and appreciate the peace and progress the country enjoys today.

He said those born after Merdeka might question the need to keep revisiting the country’s struggle for independence, having never experienced life under colonial rule.

“Some may feel that we should move on and not dwell too much on the past. But the reality is that every era has its own struggle,” he said.

Saarani said while the country’s forefathers had fought to free the nation from colonial rule and secured its independence, the current generation was responsible for preserving peace and unity while building a better future.

He said although the country no longer faced colonialism in its traditional form, it now had to contend with intense economic competition, economic uncertainty, rapid technological change and the borderless flow of information.

“Independence is not only about freeing a nation from colonial rule, but also about ensuring its people can live in peace and stability, with confidence in the future.

“That is why our Independence must continue to be remembered, cherished and given meaning in line with the challenges of every era,” he said.
