Seremban’s new integrated transport hub reaches 35% completion, with Transport Minister Loke confirming the station will open in March 2027.
SEREMBAN: The construction project for the new Seremban Sentral railway station, which will become an integrated modern transport hub in the city, has reached 35 per cent progress so far and is expected to be completed by March next year.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke (pic) said the most challenging work, including piling and underground utility relocation, has been completed, allowing the pace of construction to be accelerated.
“In the initial stages, the work was quite slow..this is because the piling work takes a long time and they need to get the exact piling location and the wiring, the cables near the underground need to be moved and so on, that is why the preliminary work took a long time.
“After completion, the construction work will be accelerated including the installation of the roof, glass structure and other finishings..this project is very challenging, but after more than two years, it has entered the phase where the piling is completed,” he told reporters after inspecting the Seremban KTMB Station project here today.
He said the project worth almost RM100 million would integrate the Seremban KTMB station which is over 100 years old with a new modern station, thus creating a more efficient and user-friendly transport hub.
Loke, who is also the Member of Parliament for Seremban, said the new station was designed with a green building concept with Minangkabau-inspired architectural elements and equipped with new commercial spaces.
He said that when completed, the station would be able to accommodate up to 30,000 passengers a day in the initial stage and has the capacity to be expanded to 120,000 passengers a day in the future.
“The design of this station provides six platforms, we are building three platforms first while the other three can be developed in the future according to the increase in passenger demand.
“This station is quite large and we expect it to be able to accommodate demand for maybe the next 30 to 50 years…so when this station is completed, the double track is completed, we will increase the frequency for Komuter, ETS and so on to attract more people to live here,” he said.
He said the station also provides two entrances and drop-off areas, respectively at the front of Jalan Tunku Antah and the back of the station to reduce traffic congestion.
“This is a very significant station, an important project for the Ministry of Transport and the people of Seremban, thus becoming a new landmark in Seremban town. After this, of course, it will also integrate the transit-oriented mega development project (TOD) Seremban Sentral behind this station,” he said.
Meanwhile, Loke said the Seremban KTMB Station renovation project had been fully completed since last month with conservation work involving upgrading the wiring and a more modern electrical system to ensure that the heritage building continues to be safe and functioning properly.
He said his ministry was also implementing additional scope involving the construction of a new sewerage system to overcome the problem of flash floods which previously affected the station’s operations.
He explained that the new sewer will drain rainwater directly into Sungai Temiang without passing through the station area, thus preventing the platform and track from being flooded during heavy rains.
Meanwhile, he said the Klang Valley Double Track Phase 2 (KVDT2) upgrade project had now reached 55.8%.
Loke said the current reduction in the frequency of Kommuter services during the afternoon hours is to allow for faster construction work after one of the tracks was temporarily closed for construction purposes.
