The home ministry expects to obtain comprehensive data under the Refugee Registration Document programme before the end of this year, says its minister.
CYBERJAYA: The Home Ministry (KDN) expects to obtain comprehensive data under the Refugee Registration Document (DPP) programme before the end of this year, said its minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
He said the DPP programme, which is being implemented by the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM), will provide more complete data on refugees in the country for related purposes.
“In managing refugee issues, KDN, through JIM, is leading a project known as the DPP. We have begun its implementation and, God willing, we will obtain the results before the end of this year.
“We will have more credible and granular data containing comprehensive information on all refugees successfully registered under the programme,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the 2026 Immigration Day celebration, themed ‘Melakar Wajah Baharu Imigresen’ (Shaping a New Face of Immigration), here today. The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Also present were Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Public Service Director-General Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz, and Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban.
The media previously reported that KDN, through JIM, is implementing the DPP programme to manage refugee-related issues in a more systematic manner, in line with National Security Council Directive No. 23 (Revised 2023).
KDN said the programme was introduced to enable the government to obtain more accurate, comprehensive and verifiable biometric and identity information on individuals categorised as refugees.
Meanwhile, Saifuddin Nasution said Malaysia’s passport ranking as the world’s third most powerful passport has indirectly strengthened global confidence in the country.
“I am also proud to announce that new passport applications processed within one hour represent the fastest passport issuance process in the world.
“Recently, the new version of the international passport was also launched with enhanced security, including 94 security features to further strengthen passport security,” he said.
Saifuddin Nasution said JIM has also facilitated various government initiatives, contributing to Malaysia’s strong standing in several global rankings, including being ranked first in Medical Tourism 2025.
He added that the establishment of two Expatriate Satellite Centres at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has eased procedures for investors and skilled workers in strategic sectors such as semiconductors.
“JIM now stands as a mature and respected institution that continues to evolve in line with current needs,” he said.
