Two boys drown while swimming in an abandoned pond in Sandakan, with victims aged nine and 11 confirmed dead at the scene.
SANDAKAN: Two boys drowned while swimming in an abandoned pond along Jalan Sungai Manila here yesterday.
The Sabah Fire and Rescue Department Operations Centre said in a statement today that the victims were aged nine and 11.
According to the statement, the department received an emergency call via the MERS 999 hotline at 6.01 pm and dispatched a team of five personnel from the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to the scene.
“Upon arriving at the scene at 6.36 pm, the fire and rescue team found that both victims had already been located and pulled out of the pond by members of the public.
“Further examination by the Ministry of Health confirmed that both victims had died at the scene,” the statement said.
