Pakatan Harapan’s Fahmi Fadzil calls for mature campaigns focused on policies and track records, not racial or religious sentiment.
SEREMBAN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has urged all parties contesting in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election to conduct mature campaigns by presenting ideas, policies and their track records, rather than exploiting issues related to race, religion and royalty (3R) or spreading slander to win voters’ support.
PKR information chief Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said elections are a democratic platform for the people to determine the state’s future, and political competition should therefore focus on solutions to issues affecting the rakyat, including employment opportunities, home ownership, the cost of living and the state’s economic development.
He said that although the campaign entered its ninth day today, there were still individuals and political parties exploiting racial sentiments and spreading slander to divert attention from real issues.
“Political parties should compete through ideas, policies, track records and solutions to the people’s problems, not by resorting to politics of hatred.
“When a party runs out of ideas, it sells hatred. But a party that is confident in its track record and offerings presents hope. PH has chosen to offer hope, not hatred,” he told a press conference at the Negeri Sembilan PH Main Operations Room.
Fahmi also called on all parties to respect election laws and ensure that campaigning is conducted in a mature, responsible and fact-based manner. He said Negeri Sembilan has long been known as a peaceful and harmonious state, and the unity built over many years should not be undermined for political gain.
Fahmi said PH would continue to champion moderate, inclusive and constructive politics by emphasising leadership that works for and unites the people regardless of race, religion or background.
Asked about the involvement of celebrity and social media personality Caprice in the PH campaign, Fahmi stressed that Caprice is not an official influencer representing the coalition in the state election.
Early voting for the Negeri Sembilan state election is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, while polling will be held on Aug 1.
