A 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit off North Sumatra, Indonesia, with tremors felt in west coast Malaysian states. No tsunami threat to Malaysia.
KUALA LUMPUR: A strong 6.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the west coast of Northern Sumatra, Indonesia, at 12.56 pm today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department confirmed the quake’s epicentre was located at 2.7° north and 95.9° east.
It occurred at a depth of 57 kilometres.
MetMalaysia reported that tremors were felt around the west coast states of Peninsular Malaysia.
The department added that the earthquake does not pose any tsunami threat to Malaysia. – Bernama
