Most Malaysians view ASEAN Summit 2025 favourably

A majority of Malaysians believe the ASEAN Summit 2025 will bring tangible benefits, with younger citizens most positive about trade and job opportunities.

KUALA LUMPUR: Most Malaysians believe the ASEAN Summit 2025 will bring tangible benefits to the nation, according to a survey from the UCSI Poll Research Centre.

Younger Malaysians aged 18 to 34 are the most positive, with 66% believing the summit will lead to favourable trade agreements and better job opportunities.

The survey showed 61% viewed the summit positively, while 50% believed the decisions made would impact them personally.

However, only 38% believed ASEAN economic cooperation would reduce the daily cost of living.

On ASEAN’s priorities, 44% listed reducing the cost of living in the region as their top concern.

Job creation followed closely at 41%, while a coordinated effort to combat scams and crime was chosen by 9%.

Climate change and environmental issues lagged at 1%.

Malaysia recently hosted the 47th ASEAN Summit and its related meetings in Kuala Lumpur.
