Zambry reaffirms higher education agenda after Senate reappointment

Higher Education Minister Zambry Abd Kadir pledges to continue his ministry’s strategic programmes after being sworn in for a second Senate term alongside two other ministers.

PUTRAJAYA: Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir has welcomed his reappointment as a senator.

He said the move allows him to continue advancing the country’s higher education development agenda.

He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for extending his tenure.

Zambry also thanked Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the nomination.

“This is a responsibility I must carry forward,” he told reporters after an event here today.

His remarks followed his swearing-in ceremony for a second Senate term before Dewan Negara president Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar were also sworn in.

When asked about his portfolio, Zambry confirmed he would continue his existing duties.

In a statement, Anwar said the appointments ensure continuity in policy and the nation’s reform agenda.

He stated the ministers can continue their crucial duties in line with the Malaysia MADANI vision.

Separately, Zambry highlighted the success of the Putrajaya Festival of Ideas 2025.

The event earned a Malaysia Book of Records title as the country’s largest academic event and gained ASEAN-level recognition.

He said the programme attracted around 500,000 on-site visitors and 1.4 million online participants.

It also involved ministers from Indonesia and the Philippines.

“This is a major national achievement,” Zambry added.

He said the Ministry of Higher Education has demonstrated excellent teamwork through the event’s success.
