PALAPES trainee case: Mother says AGC ruling proves fight for son was worth it

The mother of a deceased PALAPES trainee thanks the AGC for classifying his death as murder, saying the fight to uncover the truth was justified

SHAH ALAM: The mother of a deceased Reserve Officers Training Unit (PALAPES) trainee has thanked the Attorney General’s Chambers for its statement on her son’s death.

Ummu Haiman Bee Daulatgun, 45, said the AGC’s classification of Syamsul Haris Shamsudin’s death as a murder case made the family’s sacrifice worthwhile.

“Alhamdulillah, we have succeeded in proving that my son’s death involved criminal elements,” she told reporters after High Court proceedings here.

She also thanked the Bukit Aman Classified Crime Investigation Unit for confirming her initial feelings about her son’s body.

Ummu Haiman expressed gratitude to a source known as ‘individual A’ for helping obtain approval for a second post-mortem.

She now hopes the perpetrator will be brought to justice and given an appropriate punishment.

The mother also believes there are additional criminal elements linked to her son’s tragic death.

“As a mother, I sincerely urge the authorities to take action,” she said.

She asked them to investigate the case with sincerity and transparency.

On December 2, the AGC directed that the death be classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

This decision followed a police briefing on the investigation findings into the UTM Skudai trainee’s death. – Bernama
