A security guard foiled an attempted robbery of RM82,000 in Klang, but the suspect fled with the guard’s pump-action shotgun.
SHAH ALAM: A security guard foiled an attempt to rob about RM82,000 during a cash transfer from a bank in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang yesterday, but the suspect escaped with the guard’s pump gun.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the incident occurred at about 5.30 pm when the security guard noticed a man, believed to be armed with a revolver, approaching him before he quickly threw the cash bag into the security van and shut the door.
The suspect, wearing a helmet and dressed in black, then seized the pump gun from the security guard before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
“In this incident, the suspect acted alone and fled on a motorcycle. Efforts to trace the suspect are being actively carried out. Police are also collecting CCTV recordings from the bank and nearby premises, as well as dashcam footage.
“Police have obtained several recordings that can assist in the investigation. Nevertheless, we still welcome assistance from members of the public who may have witnessed or recorded the incident,” he told a press conference here, today.
Shazeli said the helmeted suspect, dressed entirely in black, then grabbed the security guard’s pump-action shotgun before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
He said investigations are also focusing on the possibility of insider involvement, with the case being investigated under Sections 392 and 397 of the Penal Code.
A video of the incident went viral on social media yesterday where the footage showed a security guard outside a bank branch in Klang raising both hands after allegedly being threatened with a firearm by a helmeted man dressed in black, believed to be linked to the attempted robbery.
