Malaysia upgrades Johor-Singapore checkpoints to ease peak-hour travel

Malaysia’s Home Ministry is adding 40 eGates and 145 QR scanners at Johor checkpoints to double processing capacity by December 31

JOHOR BAHRU: The Ministry of Home Affairs is upgrading immigration systems at the Malaysia-Singapore border to ease travel congestion during peak hours.

The focus is on immediate and mid-term improvements to infrastructure, automation and digital systems at the Sultan Iskandar Building and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex.

An additional 40 NIISe eGates and 145 MyNIISe QR Code scanners will be installed across all lanes by December 31 this year.

This upgrade is expected to double the processing capacity at both major entry points.

The ministry is also accelerating upgrades to the MyIMMs and NIISe systems to improve their stability, responsiveness and capacity.

It is working with telecommunications companies to boost internet connectivity at critical locations to prevent system disruptions.

KDN is integrating the MyNIISe and MyBorderPass systems to create a more seamless flow for all travellers.

A Special Task Force has been established to monitor the upgrade work weekly until all systems are fully operational.

The ministry encourages Malaysian citizens to download the MyNIISe application and use the automated eGate lanes.

These enhancements are part of the government’s commitment to building a more modern, efficient and user-friendly immigration system. – Bernama
