Malaysia’s Speedy Tigers clinch 17th straight SEA Games hockey gold

Malaysia’s men’s hockey team thrashed Thailand 8-0 to win their 17th consecutive SEA Games gold medal, with Amanraj Sarwan scoring a hat-trick.

CHONBURI: Malaysia’s men’s hockey team, the Speedy Tigers, delivered a dominant 8-0 victory over Thailand to secure the SEA Games 2025 gold medal.

The win marks Malaysia’s 17th consecutive gold in men’s hockey at the Southeast Asian Games.

Amanraj Sarwan sealed the emphatic performance with a late hat-trick in the final quarter.

Malaysia broke the deadlock late in the first quarter through a goal from Muhajir Abdu Rauf.

The Speedy Tigers intensified their attack in the second quarter, adding two more field goals.

Faiz Jali scored in the 27th minute before Aiman Rozemi netted just a minute later.

Fitri Saari extended the lead to 4-0 in the 42nd minute with another field goal.

Malaysia then unleashed a four-goal blitz in the final quarter to complete the rout.

Alfarico Liau scored the fifth goal in the 50th minute of the match.

Amanraj Sarwan then stole the show with three goals in the 55th, 57th, and 60th minutes.

“We expected this gold medal, but not the scoreline,” said Speedy Tigers coach Sarjit Singh.

He added that while the medal was anticipated, the team still had to perform well to claim it.

Malaysia has now won the SEA Games men’s hockey gold 18 times since the sport’s introduction in 1971.

The team has only finished as runners-up once, back in 1973. – Bernama
