New records and fierce competition define Round 2 of MotoMini Malaysia

CHANGING weather conditions, from scorching heat to heavy rain, at Round 2 of MotoMini Malaysia 2026 at Horizon Beranang Circuit did not prevent the country’s young talents from delivering outstanding performances across all categories.

The spotlight this weekend was firmly on the SIC Ohvale Junior Championship, where Haqim Al Mahdi continued to prove himself as the most consistent rider in the field by securing another two victories, extending his winning streak to four consecutive races.

The seven-year-old HF MotoMini Team rider carried forward the impressive momentum from the opening round, where he completed a clean sweep of both races at LYL International Karting Circuit last month.

Haqim began his campaign in Beranang with a commanding victory in Race 1, completing the 15-lap contest in 12 minutes 26.585 seconds ahead of Akmal Aiman of CMX Racing and Akid Darwisy of H&H Soya Cincau MotoMini. He then continued his dominance in Race 2, once again controlling the race with composure to complete another perfect weekend.

“I’m very happy with the victories I achieved this week. Thank you to everyone who has always supported me,” said Haqim.

The result sees Haqim collect the maximum 100 points after two rounds, further strengthening his position at the top of the SIC Ohvale Junior Championship standings.

In the MotoMini Malaysia 160cc category, defending champion Al-Adam Mikail of Scooter.my ZNEXLAB IGOL Racing Team continued his impressive form by winning Race 1.

Al-Adam finished ahead of Qaish Isyraf of JRQR Racing Team and Rayqarl Alhayy to secure another important victory for his team.

However, Race 2 produced its own drama when heavy rain forced a temporary stoppage before the race resumed after all teams switched to wet-weather tyres.

In the slippery conditions, Qaish Isyraf delivered a mature and controlled ride, taking the lead shortly after the restart before steadily building a comfortable advantage over his rivals.

The 12-year-old rider from Pahang went on to claim his maiden MotoMini Malaysia 160cc victory, finishing ahead of Naufal Aryan and Aisy Wafiy.

“I’m proud and extremely happy with this victory. Thank you to my family, sponsors and friends for always supporting me,” he said.

Despite the Race 2 result, Al-Adam remains at the top of the 160cc standings with 83 points. However, his advantage has been reduced significantly, with Qaish closing the gap to just nine points on 74 points.

In the MotoMini Malaysia 190cc category, Qasha Irfan Azlan of Team 4 Racing was unable to maintain his perfect winning record this season despite making an excellent start to the weekend.

The 12-year-old rider from Terengganu won Race 1 after completing 18 laps in 14 minutes 16.347 seconds, finishing ahead of Malek Ridha in second, while Qayyim Razin of MotoSP Ravenol Racing completed the podium.

However, Race 2, which took place in wet conditions, saw Qasha suffer heartbreak after crashing with seven laps remaining, ending his hopes of securing another victory.

The incident opened the door for his team-mate, Airel Marzuki, to claim his maiden win in the category. Airel made the most of the challenging conditions and successfully held off Qayyim Razin in a thrilling battle that continued right to the final corner.

“Thankfully, I managed to secure the win today. In Race 1, I was unable to finish, while in Race 2 I nearly crashed several times. However, I managed to control the bike well and defend my position until the finish despite strong pressure from Qayyim,” said Airel.

Although he missed out on victory in Race 2, Qasha continues to lead the 190cc standings with 85 points, ahead of Qayyim Razin on 72 points and Malek Ridha on 69 points.

The RCB MotoKidz category once again stole the show with some of the most exciting racing of the weekend. In Race 1, Faith Mikael of M8 Racing Team overcame several incidents to claim victory after successfully defending the lead despite intense pressure from team-mate Ayden Maleeq.

Ayden, who was chasing the race leader, crashed with six laps remaining, while separate incidents involving Adam Harris and Al Fateh Iskandar also reshuffled the podium battle.

Faith eventually crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 9 minutes 18.073 seconds, followed by Emyr Asyhman in second and Adam Harris in third. “I’m happy to finish the race in first place. I’ll try my best again in Race 2,” said Faith.

Race 2 belonged to Adam Harris of KBG Motorsport, who took full advantage of the wet conditions to produce a clean and consistent ride from start to finish.

Despite pressure from Dayyan Adam, Adam maintained his lead all the way to the chequered flag to secure his first victory of the season. Dayyan finished second, while Faith claimed another podium finish in third place.

After two rounds, Faith continues to lead the MotoKidz standings with 76 points, although his advantage is now just six points over Adam Harris, who has accumulated 70 points.

With several categories now separated by increasingly narrow margins, the MotoMini Malaysia 2026 championship is expected to become even more intense heading into Round 3, which will take place on 4 and 5 July.
