Police arrested a lorry driver transporting 470 sacks of subsidised fertiliser on the East Coast Expressway, believed to be for the black market.
CHUKAI: Police arrested a lorry driver early this morning for allegedly transporting 470 sacks of subsidised fertiliser believed to be smuggled.
The arrest occurred near the Cheneh toll plaza on the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2).
Kemaman district police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said the driver, in his 40s, was detained by a patrol unit at around 2.30 am.
He stated the lorry was heading from Kelantan to Pahang to sell the fertiliser on the black market.
“The lorry driver failed to produce documents related to the sale and transportation of the subsidised fertiliser,” he said.
Investigations found the subsidised fertiliser was obtained in small quantities from villagers in Jelawat and Bachok, Kelantan.
The driver was reportedly paid RM250 per trip to transport the fertiliser.
The lorry has been taken to the Kemaman police headquarters for further action.
