Ruben Amorim says Manchester United lacked quality and fluidity in a 1-1 draw with Wolves, denting their top-four hopes amid an injury crisis.
MANCHESTER: Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said his side “lacked quality” in a damaging 1-1 home draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The result leaves United sixth and two points outside the Premier League’s top four, harming their chances of Champions League qualification.
Wolves secured just their third point of the season, ending a 12-game losing streak through Ladislav Krejci’s header.
Joshua Zirkzee’s deflected opener had given United the lead at Old Trafford.
“We have a lack of fluidity and then lack of quality and then lack of creation of chances, and then we suffer a goal from a set-piece,” Amorim said.
“These details are important to win these games in difficult moments.”
United failed to win for the fourth time in their last five home matches.
They were without captain Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount and Kobbie Mainoo through injury.
Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo are also absent due to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Amorim remains confident his team will improve when key players return from injury and international duty.
“I think we are in one situation that you have a lot of players out in the same time,” he said.
“Of course when you play Casemiro and (Manuel) Ugarte in the middle, you know that is different to when you have Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount or Bruno.”
The manager added that he is “really confident” United will be a strong team once the squad is fully recovered.
