Bolsonaro is serving a 27-year sentence there for plotting a coup after losing the 2022 presidential election.
Earlier on Thursday, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes rejected a request from Bolsonaro’s lawyers.
They had sought permission for the former president to serve his sentence under “humanitarian house arrest.”
The ruling stated that after receiving medical clearance, Bolsonaro should return to serve his prison sentence at the Federal Police facility.
The DF Star hospital and the Federal Police both declined to comment on the matter.
Bolsonaro has a history of hospitalizations and surgeries related to a 2018 stabbing during a campaign event.
The 70-year-old was admitted to hospital last week for the surgical procedures.
The procedures were authorised by Justice Moraes following a request from the former president’s legal team. – Reuters
