Newly improved bus hub to transform urban transport system

PETALING JAYA: The Pasar Seni Bus Hub, in a bid to further enhance public experience of the urban transport system, underwent a major facelift.
Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib said the renovation for the over 30 years bus hub was timely especially when Kuala Lumpur will play host to several Asian countries next year as well as hosting the Southeast Asian Games in 2017.
“After the refurbishment for the hub was completed in September 2013 and we handed it over to RapidKL for operation and maintenance on March 18 last year, I can see RapidKL had done quite a lot of improvement for the hub in order for the public to have a better urban public transport experience,” he told reporters during his official visit to the bus hub.
Ahmad revealed that among the changes made by RapidKL is having different platforms for different city buses.
“In total, there are six platforms at this hub that will be catering for 203 buses that go on all the different 29 bus routes which is mainly the KL city centre, Shah Alam/Subang, Klang Lama, Kota Damansara/Subang/Shah Alam, Puchong, and finally Petaling Jaya.
“Unlike before where the passengers need to always be on the look out for their buses, now they just need to head over to the targeted platform for their intended destinations,” he added.
Ahmad Phesal said to ensure passengers have the latest bus route information, RapidKL have specifically installed nine units of the Passenger Information System (PIS) around the hub that would provide the passengers with the estimated time of arrival and estimated time of departure of the buses.
“This way, the passengers will have a better time estimation on the buses and use the waiting time to do other errands,” he added.
He said to ensure adequate security of the premises as well as to avoid any untoward incident, RapidKL have located a Prasarana Polis Bantuan booth within the hub with 24 hours surveillance.
