MAHB invests RM7 mil to upgrade communications at five airports

    SEPANG: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has invested RM7 million to upgrade communications at its five international airports using the Terrestrial Trunk Radio (Tetra) system.
    Tetra is specifically designed for used both in public safety and commercial space.
    MAHB general manager (planning and development), Nor Azlina Mohd Isa, said the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), klia2 and the Penang, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching airports had been upgraded with the Tetra system under the first phase of implementation.
    "The system has been installed and used in these five international airports first. It will be implemented in other airports when the time comes," she said.
    Nor Azlina said this at a media briefing after the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between MAHB and Sepura's local partner, Comintel Corp Bhd, here today.
    Sepura's regional director, Terence Ledger, said as a digital radio technology company based in UK, it viewed Malaysia as a potential key market.
    "We have been in Malaysia for six years. We see the government's commitment to improve digital communications from analog was much in line with our company's strategy," he said. – Bernama
