KUALA LUMPUR: In light of the Selangor Sultan's appointment of PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali as the next mentri besar, the DAP has declared its full support to the candidacy.
DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng said the party also endorses PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail's withdrawal as a candidate for the post.
Since Wan Azizah commanded majority support in the Selangor legislative assembly, Lim said the DAP will now instruct its 15 state assemblymen to provide Azmin with their full support.
"For these reasons, the DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) has decided to instruct our 15 DAP assemblymen to support Azmin as the new Selangor Mentri Besar," he told reporters during a midnight press conference.
Meanwhile, he also slammed the four PAS state executive councillor (exco) who continued working with former Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim after he sacked six PKR and DAP excos "unjustly".
"DAP expresses regret at the four PAS excos members for their betrayal of the principles of solidarity and democracy as well as failing to stand loyally together with those who were unjustly sacked by the former Mentri Besar, who had last majority support in the state assembly," he said.
Lim added that the resolution of the Selangor Mentri Besar Crisis can now help Pakatan Rakyat continue to fulfil the promise of a better Selangor that can provide justice, freedom, and economic prosperity for all.
