KUALA LUMPUR: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim today claimed that the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZone) is safer compared to Kuala Lumpur.
He said he travels to Sabah weekly to prove that it is a safe place, despite the cases of kidnappings and fatal shootings that occurred in the district since January, this year.
"I went to the most feared place at night, without security personnel to ensure this country is safe," he said in reply to a question by Datuk Linda Tsen Thau Lin (BN- Batu Sapi) on the impact of the dusk-till-dawn curfew on the tourism and fishery sectors.
Shahidan said the curfew did not trouble the people, adding that they were 'much happier' with it.
"We are able to detect unusual movements at dusk in order to keep the area safe," he said, adding fishermen who wanted to go to sea at night was able to do so with permits.
He said the government does not take lightly foreign intrusions into the country's shores.
