Huge crowd at MAPCU education fair

KUALA LUMPUR: Some 25,000 people turned up for The Malaysian Association of Private Colleges and Universities (Mapcu) 12th annual higher education fair at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre here over the weekend.
Open to the public from 11am to 6pm, a total of 120 booths, including international and local universities and colleges and government agencies, provided information on tertiary education.
Organising chairman Dr Mei Ling Young said the main objective of this fair is to give an opportunity to parents, students and career counsellors to look at choices or options available.
She said it is important for parents to not only know the cost of an education programme but also the career options.
"Parents and students need to ask about career options in a particular field after getting the degree," said Mei.
Vivian Lam, 20, who is pursuing a psychology degree at a local college, wanted to find out about Masters programmes in foreign countries.
"I found out about the fair after reading theSun newspaper," she said.
Nurul Sharaz, 35 along with her brother and mother, came to the fair as she was interested in pursuing Masters and PhD programmes in Information Technology.
She said it was good to have the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) to find out whether the courses she wanted to pursue were accredited by the agency.
Apart from education institutions, students interested in scholarships and loans visited the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and theSun booths to make inquiries.
Mapcu, in partnership with theSun, will be awarding a total of RM9 million worth of scholarships covering tuition fees at 18 institutions.
