Unisem’s Q2 net profit triples

    PETALING JAYA: Semiconductor assembly and test services provider Unisem (M) Bhd's net profit tripled to RM31.38 million in the second quarter ended June 30, 2015 (Q2FY15) from RM10.84 million a year ago, due to a change in product mix and higher utilisation rates.
    This was on 18.77% higher revenue of RM298.79 million compared with RM251.58 million in the same period last year, mainly attributable to higher demand for the products and services of the group.
    "The improvement in net profit for the financial year to date was due to increased gross profit margin arising from a change in product mix and improved utilisation rates, lower interest expense and gain on disposal of assets amounting to RM3.33 million," it said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia yesterday.
    For the six months period, its net profit increased to RM54.92 million from RM20.11 million, while its revenue for the same period was up by 20.7% to RM578.85 million compared with the previous year at RM479.63 million.
    "Asia segment recorded the highest increase in revenue by 28.6% whilst revenue for the USA and Europe segments increased by 17.4% and 12.7% respectively," it added.
    Commenting on its prospects, Unisem said it expects the performance of the group will remain satisfactory for the next quarter till the end of the financial year ended Dec 31, 2015.

    The group is engaged in manufacturing semiconductor devices and providing other related services to electronics companies.
    It provides an integrated suite of packaging and test services, such as wafer bumping, wafer probing, and wafer grinding, as well as standard and custom leadframe and array packages.
    Currently it is operating in Malaysia, Indonesia, United Kingdom, the People's Republic of China and United States.
    The counter closed higher 1.72% or 0.04 sen at 2.36 sen yesterday, with some 7.3 million shares traded.
