PETALING JAYA: Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar (pix) is mulling legal action against the New Straits Times and Berita Harian for reports linking her to former Petro Saudi International employee Xavier Andre Justo.
The Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) lawmaker has sent a letter of demand to both publications in relation to the publication of a news report alleging that she offered Justo US$2 million in contracts in return for information on 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MBD).
"We have to give them 48 hours to respond before I proceed to sue them," she said during a press conference at PKR's headquarters today.
She said that the claims made by both the newspapers are inaccurate and false and are only distractions to the real issues at hand.
Nurul is seeking either an apology or a retraction from both the dailies.
"These are intentional and malicious deflections raised from the 1MDB scandal," she said.
On Tuesday, Nurul said in a statement that she "categorically denies" offering Justo the aforementioned contracts and ever meeting him.
She said she never met him before and labeled the reports as a "complete lie in a sensationalised manner".
Nurul also said that this was a conspiracy against her and the party to shift attention away from the real issue at hand.
