KUALA LUMPUR: The incident of the double-decker city bus colliding with the underpass of Jalan Pudu is being investigated by Rapid KL Sdn Bhd.
The 4.2 metre high Rapid KL U40 stage bus was serving between Terminal Kajang to Terminal Jalan Silang route and was on its way to the city centre when the incident happened.
The front-end of the upper level coach was damaged when the bus driver tried to pass through the Jalan Pudu underpass at 6.45 pm on Sunday.
U40 route is among the busiest routes during peak hours and caters to between 9,000 to 9,800 passengers during work days and 11,000 to 13,000 during weekends and public holidays.
Rapid Bus chief executive officer Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff told theSun that he has instructed for probe to find out the cause of the reason and other possibilities that made the driver to use the route.
No one was injured during the incident and it is learned that the underpass route at Jalan Pudu was not the original daily route for the bus with a maximum capacity of 108 passengers.
An operation officer attached with Rapid KL bus depot at Cheras Selatan stressed that it was a bizarre incident.
"We are puzzled on why the driver had attempted to go through the underpass as Rapid KL bus captains have been trained for months in advance before we allow them to man the double-decker bus service," said the officer, who wished to remain anonymous.
