Do not politicise BTN rebranding, said Azalina
PETALING JAYA: The rebranding process of the National Civics Bureau (BTN) must be inclusive and not be politicised by any quarters.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said every citizen needs to cooperate especially on issues of national security, and that any differences must be seen as an asset and not a liability in the country’s nation building process.
In a statement today, Azalina said a round-table meeting has been conducted and attended by a panel of experts in an attempt to change the approach of BTN to further enhance the sense of patriotism among the people.
“The panel members are not directly involved in BTN’s administration and policy aspects, but only on the aspect of providing recommendations and input for its betterment and perception management.
“All these recommendations will be presented to the Cabinet for approval,” she said.
The panel members include academicians, a former director-general of BTN, UITM’s former vice chancellor, representatives from bumiputra and non-bumiputra NGOs, media representatives and critics, and individuals from the government and opposition parties.
“I believe every one of the appointed members have their own expertise. It should also be made clear that the invitation to each panel member is based on their credibility to provide professional input, and not of the organisation they represent,” she said.
Azalina added that a second round-table meeting, in the form of a workshop, would be conducted next month.
