RM1,000 to replace lost IC
PETALING JAYA: Malaysians who lose their identity card too often will have pay up to RM1,000 to get a replacement.
According to the National Registration Department (NRD) website, those who lose their identity card for the third time or beyond are required to pay a total of RM1,010 (for citizens) or RM1,040 (for non-citizens) to get a replacement.
The website says that if you lose your identity card for the first time, the application fee and processing fee will be RM10 and RM100 respectively but repeat applicants will need to pay higher processing fees of RM300 along with RM10 application fees to get a replacement.
"And if you lose it again for the third time or beyond, then you will need to pay RM10 (application fee) and RM1,000 (processing fee) to get a replacement card," the site showed.
To make matters worse, the site states that refunds will not be considered for lost IC applications that have been processed by the IC division or if the lost card is subsequently recovered.
That is not the only high price the public needs to pay as it is stated that a fee of RM50, instead RM5 previously, must be paid by those applying for extracts of register of identity card and address.
A NRD spokesperson told theSun that the new payment schedule was imposed in October last year with notices informing the public of the fees posted at all NRD offices and branches.
