MACC detain police inspector, sergeant for attempted bribery

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained three people, including a police inspector and a sergeant, over a RM2,000 bribery attempt to settle a motorcycle theft case on Friday.
According to sources, the other suspect detained was a woman and member of the public.
The inspector and the sergeant are stationed at Central Seberang Prai District Police Headquarters.
The sergeant and woman were detained at 2.15am Friday in front of an entertainment centre in Perda while the inspector was detained in Jalan Langgar, Alor Star, at 4.05pm on the same day.
"The three, aged in their 30s to 40s, were detained to aid investigation after MACC received a complaint they demanded money to settle a motorcycle theft case," he said.
The sergeant and woman were freed on MACC bail on Friday after their statements were recorded while the inspector was freed on MACC bail after his statement was recorded yesterday.
When contacted, Penang MACC director Datuk A. Samarajoo confirmed the arrests saying the investigation was ongoing.
"MACC will investigate the case transparently and speedily under Section 17 (a) MACC Act 2009," he said. — Bernama
