GEORGE TOWN: A 44-year-old female pedestrian lost her left foot after being dragged by a motorcycle at Lebuh Raya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu early this morning.
According to Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid, the freak accident happened at about 1.40am when the victim, an Indonesian national was crossing the busy road.
She was hit by a motorcycle coming from Weld Quay headed towards Jalan Gurdwara.
"The victim was dragged for several metres which resulted her left foot being severed", he said in a statement to the media.
Mior said there is a possibility that the victim severed leg cannot be reattached as the nerves and veins had been damaged.
The victim was conscious when she was taken to the hospital.
Police is still looking for the motorcyclist who fled on foot after the accident, and believe he is seeking treatment for his injuries at a private hospital.
The case is being investigated under Section 43 (1)(A) Road Transport Act 1987.
