PETALING JAYA: Road users in Kuala Lumpur will soon be greeted by the sight of a new prefix of vehicle registration number – the "V" series.
The Road Transport Department (RTD), in a statement today, said booking for the "V" prefix number plates would commence from tomorrow until July 28.
The new prefix would replace the older prefix, algorithm and alphabet plates for KL-registered vehicles, such as "W 1 A", which rolled out in September 2013.
"Those who are interested to book may submit their application for the 'V' prefix to the Federal Territories RTD. Guidelines and conditions for the booking may be obtained from RTD's website www.jpj.gov.my," it said.
A source from JPJ said the new number plates are expected to start rolling out beginning September this year, a month after the results for the booked numbers are released in mid-August.
theSun had, on May 18, reported that a new prefix of registration number — "F" and "V" — would be assigned for Putrajaya and KL respectively.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Aziz Kaprawi told theSun that the introduction of the "V" was to make it easier for public and encourage car owners to bid for golden numbers, fancy numbers (two digit) and popular numbers (four digit).
