GEORGE TOWN: A crowd of more than 6,000 spent their Sunday enjoying healthy activities and a hearty breakfast during the Milo Malaysia Breakfast Day at USM here.

Participants kicked off the event with a 3km fun run before tucking into a breakfast of noodles, pizza, chicken and fruits, which participants washed down with a cup of Milo.

Apart from this, a range of activities were provided to keep those present busy.
At the shoot-out station game booth, four-year-old Noor Rainia Ellysa said she was delighted to have scored a goal.

"This is fun," she said when met with her mom, Noor Rashimah Shima Sharuddin, 31, and dad Muhammad Fadhil Abdullah, 34.

Noor Rashimah said she always ensured her four children had breakfast before starting the day.

"We usually give them cereal with milk," she said.

Mayl Yeap, 42, and Anddrew Loh, 43, learnt how to make scrumptious cheese and tuna sandwiches.

Yeap said she had lots of fun taking part in the run and making cheese sandwiches.

"This is a good way to spend a Sunday," she added.

Nestle Products Sdn Bhd Business Milo Business Unit executive manager Philomena Tan meanwhile said the Milo Breakfast Day was started six years ago to create awareness on the importance of breakfast for children.

She said a survey then found 30% of respondents did not have breakfast but the situation has improved as a survey two years ago showed the percentage has dropped to 25%.

She said children needed energy to start their day as a study found 80% of their energy has been spent on growth and body repairs while they slept.

"Would you leave your house with your phone charged at 20%? Similarly children should be fully charged before they start their day," she told theSun adding that Milo contained calcium and Activ-Go - a unique combination of micronutrients - to help them perform at their best.

Tan also urged parents to set a good example for their children in eating breakfast themselves.

She said children will follow the examples set by their parents and urged for all to have a healthy breakfast, with Milo, to start the day.

Nestle, the maker of Milo, will be having the next Milo Breakfast Day in Kuching, followed by Kota Kinabalu, Johor Baru, Kuantan, Kota Baru and Putrajaya.
