Perodua introduces second generation Myvi
MALAYSIA'S second national car maker, Perodua marked another milestone in its history with the launch of the second generation model of the ever popular Myvi. The Myvi which has been the best-selling car in the country for nine years in a row, now offers buyers a slew of new features that includes enhanced safety features, striking styling and a better price positioning.
The new Myvi, through clever engineering and an enhanced vehicle structure, has improved safety features and scored a four-star rating by the Asean NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asia).
The Myvi, which has sold over 800,000 units is the most popular Perodua model to date, and now comes in four variants. The 1.3 Standard G replaces the old 1.3 XT, the 1.3 Premium X replaces the 1.3 SE, staying put is the 1.5 SE while the 1.5 Advance replaces the old but popular 1.5 Extreme.
The difference between the 1.3 and 1.5 models are the front grille, and the wheels; the 1.3 features a 14 inch eight-spoke wheel while the 1.5 also gets a 14 inch but with a spiral design. While each variant is distinguished by different features, standard features includes a two-motion remote control similar to many upmarket European cars; press the black button once to unlock the drivers door, and twice to unlock all doors. Press the red button to lock all doors and hold it down for three seconds to activate the alarm.
The interior is familiar but has been updated and now includes a multi-info display with service info that tells you when your next service is due. The airconditioning knobs now feature chrome highlights, and the other noticeable update is the repositioning of the hazard light button from the left to the right, closer to the driver. The shopping hooks behind the front seats now come in pairs, while a tissue holder has been embedded into the front passenger seat. There is also now an anti-snatch hook which was first introduced in the Axia. Also new is a cup holder under the driver's right air-conditioning vent.
The specifications of all cars, however, remains unchanged, the 1.3 model is still powered by the K3-VE engine with 102hp and 136Nm of torque, while the 1.5 model is powered by the same 3SZ-VE engine that puts out 102hp and 136Nm of torque. Buyers have a choice of either a five-speed manual or a new fourspeed automatic transmission.
All models sport similar exterior designs like bodycoloured window frames and door handles, but there are distinguishing factors like the fog lights and a spoiler for the top of the line models. Other upmarket features like projector headlights, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and reverse camera, and front corner parking sensors, among others, are also only available for the high end variants.
Speaking at the launch of the new Myvi, Perodua president and CEO, Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said: "The Myvi has impacted a lot of lives in Malaysia and we believe that this model is still relevant and well accepted by our society. We offer our heartfelt thank you to all Malaysians for your continued support."
