Chronic dengue a thing of the past if BN elected in Selangor

KAJANG: The chronic dengue problem in Selangor will become a thing of the past if Barisan Nasional (BN) is given the mandate to govern the state in the upcoming general election, said caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak (pix).
Najib said that the issue of poor hygiene and frequent water cuts have been badly affecting Selangor residents and added that a BN-led government will change all of that.
"The water crisis in Selangor is at the top of our priorities, but this is also true with the case of rubbish and dengue, we do not want Selangor to be labelled 'Darul Sampah' or 'Darul Dengue'" he said.
"I guarantee if BN is given the mandate, all these problems will be solved by us," he said in his speech during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Women and Children's Complex at the Kajang Hospital today.
Najib also took a dig at the opposition by pointing out the problems faced by residents in the state after the "Kajang move" in 2014.
"There are two 'Kajang moves'. One which benefited the people, and another which only gave more trouble to the people.
"The Kajang move by the opposition was unfulfilled. Although Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah won the by-election, it only created bigger problems for the people," Najib said.
He said that he has had more success in Kajang as the Kajang move undertaken by him was a success – a reference to the launch of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang line and the building of the Kajang Hospital's Women and Children's Complex.
At the ceremony, the caretaker prime minister announced that the RM305 million project at the hospital was done to ease the congestion issue due to the sheer volume of patients.
"When I visited in 2015, I noted that the building was dilapidated and constantly congested with patients. Established in 1889, the hospital was due for an upgrade," he said.
Caretaker Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said that the new complex comes with an additional 272 beds on top of the hospital's existing 306 beds, significantly increasing the Kajang Hospital's ability to accommodate a total of 578 inpatients.
